I have returned from the netherworld to lend my critiques once more. Today we have Beedrill, an old buddy of mine. Does he look as good as I remember?
Vision: This piece is obviously well-thought out. Getting those wing patterns right is a pain and a half and I'm glad to see them in place. I can see where this piece is going. The blue is used for some accent and contrast. It's a bold maneuver and I like the result. However, I would have chosen a blue closer to the original grey for the belly area.
Originality: The color tweak definitely adds a flair of originality. The blue elevates it from a mere emulation to an oddity of its own. Frankly I don't have much more to say in this regard, except for you to keep these tweaks coming! They make the piece yours.
Technique: My mouse hates you and wants to give you a 4 star. Usually, your technique is flawless. This time, there's a major mistake, though small in size. The area between Beedrill's head, arm and leg on the right is white more like the wing spaces, not the grey used. I can see why a light color wasn't used around the blacks, but it makes the stinger arm appear to extend all the way from the body rather than the arm itself.
Impact: The blue makes Beedrill pop. I know, yellow/black stripes are a warning sign and all. But as a fan who knows this Pokemon that fact doesn't mean much. Not only is the blue pretty, but it looks like the bee-fuzz is reflecting some light or is actually a non-black color. Either way, I adore it if you couldn't tell by my exultations thus far.
This might be the highest score I've given to one of your pieces in awhile. I highly recommend you continue to go in this direction by experimenting with colors.
Ah, this brings back old memories! One of those very first Pokémon episodes, where Ash gets in trouble with a horde of Beedrils in a forest... And if I remember right, Team Rocket announce their motto with a lot of noise and fireworks, and then they get pursued by even more Beedril ^^'
